Humanism is a rational approach to life based on science and reason, driven by curiosity and fairness, and motivated by compassion and kindness. Humanism affirms the dignity of every person; it supports the realisation of individual liberties and equality, and aligns our lives with social, political, economic and environmental responsibilities.
Humanism promotes the expansion of participatory democracy and fosters an open society, advocating for human rights and social justice, free from supernatural beliefs. It recognises humans as part of nature and believes that key human values, whether ethical, social or political, originate from human nature, experiences and culture.
Humanism thus bases its goals on key and universal human values, needs, and interests rather than on theological or ideological abstractions. It asserts that humanity must take responsibility for its own flourishing rather than rely on disputed supernatural myths.

Non-religious Beliefs?
Non-religious beliefs are best understood not merely as a lack of religion, but as a diverse spectrum of naturalistic worldviews and civic positions. These include Humanism, where reasoning, logic, human rights and well-being, kindness and secular ethics are emphasised,
The UK has become a majority non-religious population, often referred to as “Nones”. As a result, both legal frameworks and sociology focus on what non-religious people believe rather than merely on what they reject.
What is Secularism?
Secularism is the principle of separating religious and state institutions to maintain a neutral public space. It is a political and social framework that enables people of all religious faiths and non-religious beliefs to coexist fairly and equally. In a secular society, everyone is treated equally, regardless of religion or belief.
The core principle of secularism generally rests on three pillars: the separation of religion from government, freedom of belief, and equal rights for all citizens regardless of their beliefs.
What Does BH Do?
Bromley Humanists (BH) organises a range of social events, including talks and conferences, community engagement, and key life ceremonies such as weddings, namings, and funerals, reflecting a humanist, non-religious worldview.
These include opportunities to connect with like-minded locals and peer support for those who choose to live ethically without a religious affiliation. Our activities reduce social isolation, promote understanding and empathy, and strengthen community cohesion.

Who Can Attend?
Everyone can attend BH’s events. You don’t need to be a member, an atheist, or a humanist to join us. Everyone who respects science, reason, and logic; supports human rights and upholds human dignity, autonomy, and ethical living without dogma and superstition would enjoy our events.
We work for the public, particularly the residents of the Borough of Bromley and the surrounding areas. These may include religious people, non-religious believers such as humanists, or others interested in learning about a non-religious way of life.

Where Are You?
We are in Bromley town centre. Currently, our regular monthly meetings are held at one of the meeting rooms at the Bromley United Reformed Church (BURC), 20 Widmore Road, Bromley, BR1 1RY.
This venue is conveniently accessible by train (Bromley South station) or local buses.
We are planning further meetings and activities to be held either at BURC or at one of the nearby meeting venues that are equally convenient to access.

Humanist Ceremonies?
Humanist Ceremonies bring human values to life.
Major life events deserve memorable and meaningful ceremonies. And they need to be special, so we shape them for and with the people and families involved.
Our network of trained and accredited non-religious celebrants has been trusted with marking life’s most significant moments for 130 years.
Non-religious ceremonies are warm, welcoming, and inclusive. Because we are all human, and we all have interesting stories.
How Can I Support BH?
You can join Bromley Humanists (BH) as a guest without any prior arrangements (just turn up) at most of our regular meetings that do not require an RSVP or ticket.
