Bromley Humanists campaign for a secular society rooted in rationality, kindness, and human rights, concentrating on issues where non-religious viewpoints are underrepresented. We believe that human beings alone are responsible for improving the world, as we do not believe in divine intervention. We are guided by the principle that every person has equal dignity and should be free to live in accordance with their own values, provided they do not harm others. 

Secularism is a political and philosophical principle that advocates the strict separation of religious institutions from the state and public institutions. Its fundamental goal is to create a neutral public framework that ensures fairness, equality, and freedom of belief for everyone, whether they are religious, non-religious, or choose to change their faith. Crucially, secularism is not synonymous with atheism or an attempt to suppress religion; rather, it is a democratic arrangement that prevents any single worldview from holding privileged institutional power over others.

At Bromley Humanists, we focus our efforts on removing historical, legal, and structural religious privileges rooted in the state and some public institutions. Here is a brief description of our campaigning topics.

• Constitutional Reform and Disestablishment: We heavily campaign to disestablish the Church of England. This includes removing the British monarch's role as the Supreme Governor of the Church and abolishing the automatic right of 26 Anglican bishops to sit as lawmakers in the House of Lords.

• Education and Faith Schools: We oppose state funding for religious schools. We campaign to end faith-based discrimination in school admissions and employment, abolish legally mandated Christian collective worship in schools, and ensure that Religious Education (RE) is objective and inclusive of non-religious worldviews.

• Public Life and Legal Equality: Our campaigns work to replace mandatory daily prayers in Parliament and local councils with inclusive moments of reflection. We also fight against religious exemptions that allow faith-based organisations to bypass universal equality and employment laws.

• Healthcare and Assisted Dying: We champion individual bodily autonomy by defending access to reproductive rights (including access to contraception and abortion) and pushing for the legalisation of assisted dying, a stance frequently opposed by institutional religious groups.

• Combating Blasphemy and Free Speech Restrictions: Following successful campaigns that abolished blasphemy laws in countries like England and Ireland, we continue to fight residual blasphemy penalties to protect freedom of artistic expression, journalism, and criticism of religion.

• Defending Universal Human Rights over Dogma: We campaign to ensure that Human Rights are never overridden by traditionalist or religious objections, particularly regarding LGBT rights, gender equality, and reproductive freedom.

• Neutrality in Public Services: We campaign to ensure that vital public infrastructure, including hospitals, social care, and refugee integration systems, remains strictly neutral and free from the evangelical or discriminatory practices of religious groups that receive state funding.
